What Does Proverbs Say About Debt?

Solomon wrote the Proverbs to share his wisdom and help people walk closer with God.  Here is what my NIV study Bible states as the purpose of the Proverbs: To teach people how to attain wisdom and discipline and a prudent life, how to do what is right and just and fair – short, to apply [...]

Too Much Financial Advice? [Devotion]

This Crown Financial Ministries devotion definitely has some applicable truths in society today.  A lot of people are talking about money management, getting out of debt and savings, which are all good things.  But, with more need and urgency around such issues as debt, we see more and more services advertising help.  These services are not always offered in [...]

Obstacles to Financial Freedom [Devotion]

Obstacles to good financial planning include the following: social pressures to own more ‘things’; the attitude that ‘more is better’ regardless of cost; use of credit to delay necessary decisions; no surplus available to cope with rising prices and unexpected expenses. Don’t offset increases in income by increasing your level of spending. “. . . lay [...]

Biblical Financial Devotions

A while back Crown Financial Ministries gave me permission to repost their daily financial devotion.  I enjoy reading the devotions because they help me keep my focus on God’s economy versus the world’s view on money.  The other benefit is providing a link back to a ministry I love and support.  I pray and hope others will [...]

Select your counselors on the basis of a common value system. For the Christian, this means those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!” [...]

You must decide what you believe and trust God regardless of the outside circumstances. In other words, ‘Keep on keeping on.’ God gave us many examples of people who faced difficult situations. Some collapsed into despair and self-pity, while others grew stronger. Those who grew strong were ‘doers of the Word and not hearers only.’ [...]

Path of Least Resistance? [Devotion]

Path of Least Resistance?  The trend today is to seek the path of least resistance. The world has not conformed to God’s standards, but rather to Satan’s. It is vital that we walk according to God’s Word. God’s principles demand that, no matter what others are doing, we serve Him through every action we take. [...]

Ownership:  God or You?  Once you accept the fact that God owns everything it’s important to manage all you have according to His rules. It’s how you manage money that determines how you will manage greater things. “For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.” (1 [...]

  • I recently posted some tips to save money on your cell phone bill which got a lot of attention in the comments section.  I suppose people are always looking to save money on cell phones since everyone has one these days.  One tip commonly mentioned in the comments was using Net10′s prepaid cell phones.  I haven’t hadn’t heard of Net10, but seems a lot of people are using them these days.  Do you have any experience with Net10?  This seems like a great approach for teens, or even those who have problems using more minutes than their plan allows each month.  What do you think?
