Helping the Poor (Aside)
Do you turn your face away when you see a homeless person huddling in a doorway? Even if our society manages to solve the dilemma of the homeless, there still will be others in need. The verse is specific enough in what it’s saying. It is a command. There’s no choice involved; if you follow God, you will give to the needy. “For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you saying, ‘You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.’” (Deuteronomy 15:11 NASB).
