One Money Design Weekly Round Up: Get Back in Shape Edition

Budgeting, Round Up Posts

Financial ShapeI’ve been thinking about my time management and priorities this week.  There are a few areas in which I need to get back into shape!

Physically, I’ve neglected exercise too much recently,  so it’s time to get back into a consistent routine.  What am I doing about that?  Well, they key for me is to put it on my calender and find someone to hold me accountable.  Haven’t found that accountability partner yet, but it’s on the calendar!

Financially, as you’ll read in A Great Family Meeting About Money , we are now actively creating a new spending plan each month.  I think I’ve neglected this area of money management somewhat in the past few months and have been riding a little bit on older planning to carry us through the year.

I think you’re more effective in achieving goals and staying on track if a spending plan is created for each month.  Granted, some things will stay the same, but there is a lot of variability that comes with each month and season.  I tend to think of each month as a project to get to much larger goals.

I’m pleased to announce my article, How Web 2.0 and Bloggers are Helping People Thrive in Personal Finance, was included in The Carnival of Personal Finance  #219 – Little League Edition this week hosted by Your Money Relationship.

Thanks again to Green Panda Treehouse who posted Personal Finance Interview with One Money Design this week.  The interview is a great way to get to know more about me and One Money Design.

One Money Design was also mentioned on the Frisco Financial Planning blog.

This week I was on a Live Tuner Chat about financial lessons learned.  I was able to provide some thoughts related to discussing money with others.  You can read a review of the chat at Green Panda Treehouse.

  • The new credit card law went into effect today (2/22/10).  There are some steps you can take to hold your bank to the new credit card laws if they don’t follow them.

  • Most people think about retirement planning requiring financial precision and focus.  However, the non financial issues of retirement, as discussed, by Walter Updegrave at CNNMoney.com, are important too!  I think this article echos the importance of understanding your purpose and building retirement work years around it.

  • Credit card companies are putting together new DIY cards as a result of new credit card laws.  But, does the ability to pick and choose different features really benefit the customer?  Make sure you read the fine print because there are trade-offs and the card companies are still in control.
