Biblical Financial Responsiblity

Bible & Money

One of the first Biblical financial concepts I discuss with people in budget coaching sessions is responsibility. God has a part in our finances and so do we. Six scriptures I recently shared, if embraced, will make a difference in the way you manage money and face financial issues. They also help you build a strong foundation when managing money God’s way.

Psalm 24:1 – The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

God owns everything including the money and possessions he has entrusted to our care.

Psalm 135:6 – The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on earth, in the seas and all their depths.

God is in control of all circumstances. When we face financial challenges God is ultimately in control of them. I find real peace in knowing I’m not in control.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Thankfully, God has good intentions for us. As people may be struggling with debt and other money problems, we know that God is working for the good of us if we are putting him first.

Matthew 6:31-33 – 31 – So do not worry, saving, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Putting our faith in God and seeking Him brings peace in that God provides. We have to take action to correct problems, but God will do his part and provide for our needs.

1 Corinthians 4:2 – Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

God has given us a trust which includes money and possessions. He expects us to do our part and steward them well. Some question why you would want to have a budget. More to come on this, but having a budget helps us manage our finances well for God.

Luke 16:10 – Whoever can be trusted with very little can be also trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

If we are managing God’s possessions well, even if we do not have a lot to manage, God will entrust us with more. Don’t you want more to manage? I feel like the more we are given to manage, the more we can give and help others.

Have you had experience living by these Biblical financial principles? When have they helped you through a financial challenge?
